Namaste! How are you guys?

I’m doing great and feeling full of life these days! Do you wanna know why? Do you wanna know what’s the reason for my freshness?

The key to this freshness and this wash away of toxins is just a minute change in my daily routine and lifestyle.

So recently, the thing that happened is I found myself inclined towards medicines a lot. Don’t worry guys, nothing was serious. But, it was one of those times where you start paying attention to yourself and your body needs closely and figure out if something’s going wrong, even though it has been there for a long time(probably ignored). And I had this urge to rectify all of it at once, that too, in a snap. I hope some of you can relate.

So, I turned to medications. Vitamins, prebiotics, minerals, hormones, etcetera- I used to have a total of 5 to 6 tablets at a time. My calendar was stuffed with medicinal reminders. And I can’t explain how gassy I was due to all these.

It was then, I decided to stop taking those pills and move towards finding a more healthy and natural way, that not only heals but also prevents all these problems I was having by making me and my body internally strong and healthy.

This was the time, I turned to the most natural medical sciences of the world: Ayurveda!

Wanna know how I helped me? Here’s a ride to my Ayurvedic Journey. Let us get started!

Ancient Ayurveda

Let us first try to understand the origin and base of Ayurveda. You need to trust an art before adopting it, ain’t it?

Ayurveda is a medical system whose roots lie in the ancient Indian subcontinent. Various ancient kinds of literature are dedicated to Ayurveda.

Ayurveda is being actively opted worldwide due to the availability of the medicines it proposes. Most of the ayurvedic medicines or Aushadhis can be found in your kitchen. Ayurveda uses the medicinal properties of herbs that we generally use in our day-to-day life. Well, what I feel, is that we’re using these herbs and spices in our kitchens because our ancestors very well knew their utilities and developed a taste out of them so that we can easily use them every day. Isn’t that amusing and clever of them! Ayurveda emphasizes using natural ingredients rather than chemically produced ones in the making of its medicines. This fills us with the liveliness we long for.

Ayurveda elements

Talking of the base on which Ayurveda lies, in Ayurveda, everything is believed to be made of five components or Elements:

  1. Air
  2. Water
  3. Earth
  4. Fire
  5. Ether

These 5 elements make up all the matter around us. Also, the human body is comprised of these elements and is categorized into 3 main parts

  1. Dhatu (Tissues)
  2. Mala (Waste)
  3. Dosha (Biomaterials)

Whenever you encounter a body problem, it is because some of your Doshas are not working properly. Here’s a categorization of Doshas to help you further.

  1. Vata (space or air, equated with the nervous system)
  2. Pitta (fire, equated with enzymes)
  3. Kapha (earth and water, equated with mucus)

Everyday Ayurveda

Ayurveda is one of the best ways to elevate your senses and uplift your health without doing much. It just needs discipline and well, a  starting guide. So, here we have landed on the path that will lead you towards Pill Salvation (pun intended).

How to start Ayurveda

  1. Evaluate your Doshas

Now, what I mean here is to make a list of the areas in which you’re facing problems with respect to your body. Need better concentration, wanna fight belly fat, etcetera- anything that you feel is stopping you from living your life. Now, we have a list of areas we need to work on. So, moving on to the next step.

  1. Research for your Cure

No no, I’m not asking that you cross your doctor. What I’m asking is that start analyzing the cause for your problems. After identifying the reasons for the problem, be it your lifestyle, the food you eat, any allergy, or any injury, we need to start finding how to undo the problem. Research for herbs or spices or any food that’s effective in fighting the problem. Additionally, search for exercises. These tend to help a lot. Do this for all the problems you are currently encountering. Also, search for the things that enhance your problems. If any of these things sound familiar to your routine, these are the ones you’ll eventually have to give up. After this is done, it is time we move to the next step.

  1. Organize

I believe now you have a list of exercises and foods that you need to add and a list of those needed to be dropped. It is time we think of how to fit these things into our day and diet.

Make a daily plan specifying exactly everything in detail. For example, if you need to exercise, then mention all the types of exercises you are going to practice along with the time you have thought of offering each one of them. Similarly for the foods, you wish to eat.

Pro-Tip: In Ayurveda, it is believed that the things you eat the first on an empty stomach are the best absorbed by your body. So try to take some of your herbs on an empty stomach with some honey water. You can also infuse this water with some of the herbs or spices by soaking them in a glass overnight. This should be the first thing you drink as you wake.

Other tips can be switching your mid-work snacks with candied/fresh berries or fruits. This is one of my favorite transitions.

  1. Implement & Find your Fit

After all this planning it's time that you start to do some action. Now, you have made a perfect schedule. But nothing’s perfect. So, once you start implementing it to your day, you’ll figure out things that are working along with you and that is not. So, you’ll have to make small changes to your plan in a way that suits you the best every now and then. But, the things that needed to be included will remain constant, only the order or time changes. Got it?

Now, coming to the part of excluding the things and habits that you are currently practicing- do this one step at a time. Elaborating, if you’re having way too many soft drinks and want to cut on them, replace one of your colas with a healthy drink of your choice in a day. Continue this for a week. The next week replace one more of it and so on. This is to make your system habitual to the changes that you’re making in your life.

Types of ayurvedic massages
